Privacy policy

Top Facts (this website and its future app) is run by JGB Solutions, based in Canada. We built it to collect as little as possible.

Last updated November 1, 2026

The short version

  • No account and no sign-up. We never ask for your name, email or phone number.
  • No cookies. Nothing links your visits together.
  • Notifications are opt-in: if you tap Follow, we keep your browser’s push address and what you follow, and nothing else. Stop them any time on the notifications page.
  • We count anonymous daily totals, like “120 views of Tallest Buildings today”, and show them in the footer.
  • We never sell or rent information, and we don’t share it for advertising.

What we count

WhatWhat is recorded
Page viewsWhich page was viewed (for example a list or a category) and when. Nothing about who viewed it.
SearchesThe search words (lower-cased, at most 60 characters), when, and whether anything was found. Only searches that found something are ever shown publicly.
App requestsWhich part of the app’s API was called, and when.

These events never include your IP address, a device ID, a cookie or your browser details. Automated traffic (search engine crawlers, link previews, monitoring tools) is left out when we can recognise it. Events are added up into daily totals every hour.

Notifications (only if you follow something)

When you tap Follow on a list or a category and allow notifications, your browser gives us a push address: a long random web address at your browser’s push service (Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft), with two encryption keys. We store:

  • that push address and its keys,
  • the lists and categories you follow, and when you followed them,
  • when we last sent you a notification, how many we sent that day (3 at most), and how many sends failed in a row.

That’s all: no name, no email, no IP address, and nothing that ties it to your visits. We use it only to send you a notification when something you follow changes. Notifications are encrypted so that only your browser can read them; the push service only carries them. In the app, once it exists, the push address is an Expo push token, handled the same way.

How to stop: tap Following again, use the notifications page (which also deletes your push address), or block notifications for this site in your browser. Automatic deletion: immediately when you stop following everything or when the push service tells us the address no longer works, and after 6 months without any notification.

Analytics and error reports

We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits and measures page speed without cookies. When something breaks, an error report can be sent to Sentry with the page address (without anything after it) and the browser name, so we can fix it.

Your IP address

Like every website, our host sees your IP address when you connect, to send the page back and protect the service from attacks. We don’t store it, and it is never part of our statistics. When you follow or unfollow something, Cloudflare counts those requests per IP address for about a minute, in memory, to stop abuse; that count is never stored.

Who else handles data

  • Cloudflare hosts the website, its database and the statistics, and may process connection data for security and performance.
  • Pictures next to some entries load directly from their source (Apple, Wikimedia Commons, GitHub, Steam or Open Library), so those services receive the image requests.
  • Fonts are served from our own domain: no request goes to a font service.
  • If you follow something, your browser’s push service (Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft) delivers our encrypted notifications to you.

These providers may process data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it is subject to local laws.

How long we keep it

Raw events are kept up to three months; daily totals are kept, since they don’t identify anyone. Push addresses and follows are kept as described under Notifications.

Your choices and rights

You can use everything on Top Facts without giving us any personal information. You can ask a question about this policy, or ask us to access, correct or delete information related to you, at services@jgb.solutions. If you’re not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the privacy regulator where you live, such as the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

Top Facts is a general-audience service. It isn’t aimed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change what we collect, for example by adding accounts or advertising, we will update this page and its date before the change takes effect.
